How to enjoy the Midlands of Ireland
The Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre is located in the Midlands of Ireland - a beautiful part of the country where the clear water flows from the mountains through the barley fields which give golden colour to the boggy landscape and ancient monasteries.
It’s an area with plenty to see and do, with many great Festivals and Events as well as historical sites, unique landscape and outdoor activities.
The Midlands are mostly made up of level plains and bogs that rise to the rugged Slieve Bloom Mountains which provide quality hill-walking. Forest and bog environment ensure an incredible variety of wildlife. Long, low, gentle swathes of grass as far as the eye can see are broken up by towns and villages and connected by some of Ireland's most modern road and rail networks. The River Shannon and Grand Canal are convenient for cruising and angling
In every part of the Midlands you will find a warm welcome from the locals who will do their utmost to make every visitor feel like a known and trusted friend. Characterful pubs beckon the passer-by at every corner and it's there that you'll experience uniquely Irish hospitality for yourself.
The vibrant town of Tullamore is the birthplace of both Tullamore Dew Irish whiskey and Irish Mist liqueur.
The Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre lets you can participate in a guided tour, learn about the fascinating history of the distillery and the town development, dating back 9,000 years. After the tour you can enjoy your free tasting of whiskey!
The Heritage Centre café and gift shop is a great place to enjoy delicious homemade food and stock up on original gifts and the full range of Tullamore Dew whiskeys.

For ancient history, there are magnificent monasteries and castles in the area – Birr Castle; Offaly History
Get active! Sports facilities include horse riding at Annaharvey Equestrian Centre, golf at Esker Hill or Tullamore Golf Club, fishing in the midlands lakes, the Grand Canal or the river Shannon and clay pigeon shooting at the Midlands National shooting range.
Calling all musicians! Irish people love a good sing-song – Tullamore was home to the international Fleadh Ceoil for three years running. Would your choir like to sing here?
Water lovers should visit our lakes and river Shannon or Grand Canal Boat hire and cruising is available at Silver Line Cruisers.
Go to the dogs for a night out at the Greyhound Racecourse; enjoy an evening meeting at the horse races or mingle into the atmosphere of the Gaelic Sport games for a match at the Tullamore G.A.A. club.
